3.20 on q6600 on xfx 680i LT sli - Page 13

I just don't understand this, even with my new fan i'm still sitting at 46c idle up to 56c load. My friends are getting temps like 34c idle 42-44c load. From what i read i'm safe until 65c but still I'd prefer much lower temps, maybe i'll get someone to professionally install my fan, that could be the problem.

I know my system doesn't breathe well, if i take off the side case i go from 47c to 43/44c

*Edit*

i've been getting random lockups lately so I decided to drop the clock to 3.0 instead of 3.2 and also drop the volts from 1.34~ to 1.3, but something odd occured. My core temps went up 3c

As for the lockups that's wierd too, I've run super pi w/o incident but only recently im getting lockups. Maybe I need to do the pencil mod, but I can't seem to find one that shows me where to pencil in my board.

*Edit2* Was getting severe lockups after changing the timings on my ram from auto to 4/4/4/12, When i set it back no normal, was still getting pretty severe lockups. Did a little research and found out it could be my ram.

8hr's of testing, 0 errors. I'm pretty sure it's a result of Vdroop, but i am a bit nervous about doing the pencil mod w/o a good guide/picture. All the pictures i find a 100% clear, they just don't show the accurate location on the board.

I have the XFX 680i SLi LT board and the Q6600 processor as well, but i cant even get it stable at 3.0ghz. Ive tried numerous methods(Including updating to the P07 bios) and all end in the same result....full system lockups/shutdowns. Before i go into explaining all those methods i have one question. Would using a 4pin connector for power rather then the 8 pin be the reason i cant keep this thing stable? The manual says 4 pin is alright, but 8 is recommended and the only reason im not using 8 is due to the fact that my second cable is not long enough for some dumb reason.

By the way, hello all! This is the first time i have visited these forums and it looks like you guys are all very helpful and supportive of each other. I will definitely visit often.

*Edit* Also, just thought id mention that im using a zalman 9700 CPU cooling fan and temps never went past 42C on full load with the 3.0ghz (unstable) overclock....usually idled around 35 to 37.

I literally got mine stable at 3.0 with only raising the voltage on the core. 1.30 core volts. It should be stable at least for me at that. I don't know if using a 4 pin would mess that up, but then again i'm certainly not an expert.

I apparently can't even get my cpu fan installed properly because my zalman with a 3.0 clock is 40 on idle currently (with my case open and air conditioner on) to 48~ with case and AC on.

Now if I close the case or the AC isn't on, i'm looking at 48-50 idle and 60~ load.

Definately have an airflow problem in my case. i'm probably going to change from http://www.shopping.com/xPO-CASE-NZX...TE-BLK-400W-RT

to http://www.provantage.com/antec-nine...d~7ANTG049.htm

What type of thermal paste did you use? Ive found that Artic Silver 5 lowers the temps a good bit more then the stock stuff they give you. Also be sure not to over apply. All you need is a small dab spread evenly throughout.

Most people have the zalman fan faced to the side, but mine is actually facing downwards. Ive found this to be the most effective in the antec 900 case because of the big exhaust fan right above it sucking out the heat.

I Highly recommend the antec 900. Its pretty good sized for only being a mid tower and offers you a bit of room to mess around. ( However it was a little tricky dropping the motherboard into it ) The two fans in the front really knock the temps down throughout the case...My 8800GT at stock fan speeds never goes above 65C and idles around 45C.

The problem isn't my thermal paste, it's AS5, the problem is I probably didn't apply it properly.

The antec 900 was recommended to me by a person heavily against overclocking. It looks unbelievable. I made a big mistake going for looks when I got my current. It's nice yes, but it's also small and my dual 8800's + tiny space + louisiana heat waves = temps you wouldn't believe.

Lol, I'm originally from Houma. I live in Arkansas now since the hurricane. But yeah, this isn't the place for this. Sorry everyone else.
