I've gotten it to 3.5Ghz on pretty doable voltages. Did 3.6Ghz (400*9) but I had to jack up the voltages a bit too high for my likings. I will however try 450ish*8 sometime, might get lucky.

If I wanted to OC like mad I would've gotten myself an E8400 or E8500. I just wanted cheap for good stuff (Q6600 G0 was on sale over here at the time).

hey guys, I'm stuck with 2.8ghz on my board and can't push it any farther. Can you please give me an advice on what to set in bios to hit at least 3.0ghz? I'd like to know exactly how to do this. I tried unlinked and linked. with basically everything disabled in BIOS and still couldn't go past 2.85ghz. Can anyone please post the settings?

Go to voltages and set your voltages a bit higher, see if that works. (turn of C1E / Speedstep)

I did that, I think it's the RAM that's holding me back for some reason. My VID is 1.28v and I went up all the way to 1.35v with no luck

I'd suggest linking your ram 1:1 with the FSB. So if you're doing 9*333, set your RAM to 666mhz. Though I'm not expecting it to work after that either.

I've read a large majority of this thread which is filled with great information but this my first computer build and overclock and I am looking for an "anoldmanwhoistolazytofigureitoutforhimself" list of bios changes that I can just check off/change that will get me back to 2.93 or more.

I found and followed someones list of bios changes and was able to bump up my FSB for a clock of 2.93...which I was perfectly fine with until I had more time to experiment with over clocking. Unfortunately, my bios lost it settings sometime while I was moving my rig into a new case and changing out the CPU cooler. The bios settings defaulted back to the stock settings and I am now back to 2.43 on my Q6600 and I can't find the list of changes I made to my bios. I believe the list I followed before required no voltage changes...not sure though.

I'd like to get back to the 2.93 clock and tinker with going higher as I learn more and have time. Can anyone provide a list of bios changes for an uneducated soul that will get me back to 2.93. I was fine with 2.93 as the temps were good and I was receiving impressive 3dmarks/high frame rates.

I know I need to change my ram memory from 800 to 1066 in the bios as my ram defaults to 800 when installed...what other bios changes do I need to do.
Thanks!
Mike

3.0ghz (stable on mine doesn't mean stable on yours.)

1333fsb is what the board is rated for so it ussually has very good stability off the bat. Try it and then go back and tinker with voltages if it's not stable

1.Complete Pencil Mod for Vdroop
2.Load P32 Bios for the full XFX 680i even though we have the 680i sli lt
3.Disable CPU Thermal Control
4.Disable C1E Enhance Halt State
5.Disable Intel Speedstate
6.CPU Spread Spectrum to Disable
7.Set CPU Spread Spectrum to Disable
8.Set HT Spread Spectrum to Disable
9.Set PCIe Spread Spectrum(SPP) to Disable
10.Set PCIe Spread Spectrum(MCP) to Disable
11.SATA Spread Spectrum to Disable
12.Disable Nvidia GPU Ex
13.Increased QDR to 1333
14.Raise VCore from auto (1.23) to 1.30
15.Raise CPU FSB from auto(1.4) to 1.5
16.Raise SPP from auto to 1.5
17.Raise MCP from auto to 1.5
18.Raise HT thingy from auto to 1.25
19.Unlinked /Unsync Memory
20.Do any memory overclock you need to.

Thanks ChickenInferno! I saw the P32 bios link somewhere way back in this thread I assume the pencil mod is back there somewhere also...I'll go back and look for it.

the pencil mod doesn't work for me, i tryed it like four times, cleaning the resistor after every try, and i'm still getting voltage drops.
