3.20 on q6600 on xfx 680i LT sli - Page 8

I think I bit by the 3.2 virus!

I dropped my multiplier to 8 and set my Voltages by gtarmanrob's 3.6 settings. However, if I try for ANY FSB speed past 1600 I get the "WARNING! System is now in safe mode...." message. Am I doomed to be stuck with a 3.2 OC?

I also set my RAM according to the suggestion (800mhz, 4-4-4-12-2T), but what about the second set of RAM options below the first set?

I couldn't get 1600 to work period, with 8 or 9 multi. It would halt my system immediately (FSB hole?). I got some stability in the 1700 range but with massive VCore and that was exactly the opposite of what I'm trying to accomplish. 1800 wouldn't work either -- or anything above.

With the memory, I couldn't get stability with the 4-4-4-12-2T settings. I use PC6400 OCZ RAM. I backed it down to 5-4-4-15-2T and it was fine at 1.8V. Make sure you test your RAM with Memtest86 ( http://www.memtest86.com/ ) to make sure it's stable at those settings too. It's a bootable ISO. Let it run for a couple hours and if you get no errors after at least 1 complete pass, you'll be fine.

Edit: Forgot to mention, at 4-4-4-12-2T @ 2.000v, Memtest86 was spittting out 32,000 errors per second once it got to test 8 (random patterns) -- so make sure you test that setting to rule out RAM instability!

Also, where is this P31/32 BIOS? Is P07 older?
P07 is the latest, however it is lacking in some vital voltage control features.

go back a couple of pages on this thread, i posted up a link to download P31. i havnt used P32, but i was told it isnt really any different, and i had a lot of success with P31.

those other ram timings i just left on auto, i dont know enough about them to change any of it.

strange you got stuck @ 3.2ghz .. what i was getting at was that 3.2ghz, for me anyway, was impossible to get stable, i had to get around 3.2 ..

you're using the P31 bios yeah? have you applied the pencil vmod? maybe you're getting a lot of Vdroop on the core, if it fluctuates or 'droops', could cause instability.

I got the P32 bios ATM, but I'm thinking of going back to P31. I have yet to do the Pencil mod, (will any #2 Pencil do?) I'm a little scared of doing so, not sure why, just the fear that I might do something wrong as it does not get into a whole lot of detail, I'm afraid that I might screw it up.

yeah, maybe it is the P32, try the P31. im only biassed towards using that bios coz i started with the P05, then the P30, then the P31 and the P31 did wonders for me.

i am told you really need a 2B pencil. thats what i used, all the guides say use 2B. something to do with the level of conductivity on the lead or something.

yeah i was a bit nervous too. just do it slowly. turn off the PC, apply the pencil, then turn on PC and go into BIOS. set a Vcore level, then restart, go back into BIOS and into the Hardware Monitor/PC Health section, cant remember what its called for XFX. or the overclock area, whichever shows you the current set Vcore. if it matches, you have success. might take a few tries to get enough 2B on there.

and if you accidentally do too much and overvolt, IE you set say 1.35v and after restart you report like 1.38v .. just get some rubbing alcohol and remove the 2B. easy as that.

I played with the P07, P30, P31, and P32 BIOS's all day, including the NVidia versions. Same issues on all 4. No stability under 1.45 or higher Vcore once I'm past about 3.1 GHz. Then it takes exponentially greater VCore for every small step. I did notice the NVidia version of the P31 seemed easier to stablize than the others. I might flash back to it.

For now, I'm stuck at 3285 MHz at 1.49 VCore. Stable though. I'm gonna try redoing the pencil mod too -- with the #2B lead. It did help me when I did it, but I used a cheap pencil -- I think I can get better results.

I take it that the location of applying the pencil is the same on the EVGA board as it is on the XFX? The link you provided shows an EVGA board. Figured I'd ask.

Also uploaded some pics to webserver, they are the pics of 3.3 and the settings. Let me know if you want anything else from there as well.
