Best to download Coretemp

The readings of the cores will be redlining at or above 72C.

I agree, I tend to try to keep mine in the low 60's full load. Should not be a problem with a good heatsink and fan combo.

Acording to Intel, 72.4c is the max on the e8400.

Here is some info on the E8400 from the temp guide in my sig:

E8x00: Tcase Max 72.4c, C0 Stepping, Tjunction Max 105c, Vcore Default 1.1125, TDP 65w, Delta 10c

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--70--/--80--80-- Hot
--65--/--75--75-- Warm
--60--/--70--70-- Safe
--25--/--35--35-- Cool

Again, the 72C that you hear people throwing around as the max temp is actually referring to Intel's Thermal specification, which in turn refers to Tcase temperature and not Tjunction (core) temperature. Follow the temp guide in my sig to learn more about temperatures, how to calibrate them, and how to set up software to correctly display them.

the Intel spec sheet says in the 70's... i think 72C. I like keep mine under 60C from CoreTemp on Orthos full load. Just remember that that temperature on load is the highest it will go, most of the time the temperature will be below [unless you are stressing 100% 24/7].

Also keep in mind, my e8400 does not go below 42/45 core0/core1 no matter what, no matter if the ambient is 52F, so i know CoreTemp is wrong there.

Also, when i was stressing 100% at an ambient of like 40F with all the fans on max in the Antec 900, the temperatures didn't even move!!

It looks like still some people still get the Tcase and Tjunction temperatures mixed up on these chips. 2 different temps from 2 different places on the CPU using 2 different methods.
