Asrock motherboard and E6320 overclock help

Thread Starter
I am trying to do my first overclock. I have an Asrock Conroe 1333-D667 Motherboard and an E6320 CPu with 2x1Gb of XMS2 800MHZ RAM. For some reason I can only achieve a 10% overclock. There have been people that have got huge overclocks with this chip and also people that report getting E4400 up to 2.6 GHz on this motherboard so I would think I should be able to get more than 10%. I have an after market cooler (OCZ Vanquisher) so cooling should be better than stock.

Thanks for any help.

Hello and welcome to OCN. I'm not familiar with that board, and it isn't any of the major o/c'ing boards. Have you tried raising the voltage?

He should be able to get a decent OC out of that board. It supports Quads (1333 FSB) and his chip now is only 1066.
Have you tried upping your voltage? I use to have the 4Core-DualVSTA board, so I'm somewhat familiar with those boards, but haven't played with them for awhile...

i had that exact board and had to get rid !!!!!!!!!

it only allows for minor OCing through the fsb no voltage adjustments at all
i had a pentium D 925 800mhz chip the highest i could get it on that board was about 3.7ghz (247mhz) i was about to BSEL the chip cos thats the only way to get it much higher but then i bought board in sig and never looked back

sorry mate they are CRAP for OCing

There is no way to raise the vcore by yourself. It apparently raises the vcore whenever you overclock thanks to hybrid booster. It won't take Quad Core CPUs just Core 2 Duos and below. I would be extremely satisfied if I could get a 20% overclock.

I had that motherboard, until it broke on me last week Sadly it isn't a good overclocker, i had to BSEL mod to get my 1.8Ghz E2160 to 2.4Ghz. But as you have a 6320 cpu, you can't BSEL unless you go to 1333 FSB which the chipset does not officially support and your PCI-E frequency will be raised to 120Mhz. Don't forget to Overclock in ASYNC, unless your using an IDE hard drive and onboard video. Without any mods i could only get a 10% overclock as well, its not a good OC'ers board.

so it sounds like 10% is all i'm gonna be able to get then. Damn, guess i'll have to live with it for now. Still better than my old D820 but the 820 would keep lunch warm while I worked on the computer.

i have seen mods for the boards themselves for vcore & vdimm but it all seems a bit long winded ....
time to purchase a new board imo..
i also read somewhere that the 1333 D677 boards had c2d support tacked on as an afterthought ...

I was just going to recommend the BSEL mod. His board supports the 1333 chips, so his E6320 would boot up at the default 333 FSB. This will have no effect on the PCI-E freq.

I would try the BSEL pin mod to set the CPU's FSB to 333. That would give you a 2.3GHz E6320. I have tested the BSEL mod with an Intel P965 board, a Dell G33 board , and with my eVGA 680i A1 board, all with 100% success.

That is copper tape on my E6600 CPU. It is used for repairing damaged circuit traces...

I can get my FSB to 295 but as soon as I try 300 the comp doesn't post anymore. I think I am just going to have to live with a 2.07GHz E6320 for now until I get a board that is better for overclocking.
