No, you misunderstand (like I misread the OP doh!). 6 GB total (made up of 4 files).

No, you misunderstand .... it takes 8 minutes to transfer 6 gigs on 10\\100 (full stop), and the more files used to maek up the 6 gigs (ie one 6 gig files vs. 10 files totaling 6 gigs) would only make the transfer slower due to HDD fetch times.

Heh... gotta laugh at HateFury for advising and getting +rep in this thread considering his big rant on Gigabit per his sig. (and yes.. we realize you gave the advice here because the user ASKED for faster transfers and didn't just assume he just wanted a "generic flavored" network based on cheapest cost alone. )

This thread seems "tailor made" considering that previous discussion.

And yes, I would've recommended the same thing... get a Gigabit switch (cheaper than the Gig router plus you don't need the extra speed for your internet connection), make sure your NICs are "gigabit capable" (or if not, upgrade to Gigabit NICs in your networked PCs) and rock and roll with a faster network connection between computers.

Either way bruestle2 got some sound advice in this thread. Good luck with your network

Yes, 10-12MB/s is what you will get with a 10Mbps lan...

A 1Gbps lan will make you see 100MB/s speeds

I reccomend a switch instead of upgrading to a gigabit router becuase it'll be cheaper, and your internet (unless you have fiber to home) isn't faster the 100Mbps, so upgrading the router isn't necessary.
HATESFURY! READ THISvTHREAD!

Anyways, only thing I want to add is that if your on a tight budget, standard cat5 will usually work from in an internal gigabit network. I've done it before (although temporarily). Invest in some good cat6 though if you can
