Yes you absolutely can but is only needed when the FSB is a limiting factor when overclocking, using an Extreme Edition allows the use of a multiplier when overclocking making it easier to get higher overclocks and not stress the motherboard and ram as much.

Just a basic question... WHY torture yourself with the 780i???? I have a 750i ftw and it's a good board but man there are board that OC soooo much easier.
