Call of Duty 4 game saves

Thread Starter
So, I had to reinstall XP and I backed up my game saves for COD4, but when I put them back in the saved games directory for the new install, the game doesn't recognize them for some reason. My only option at the opening menu is "New Game." Does anyone know anything about this? I was so far into this game, this sucks.

Did you back up only the save game files themselves, and not the player/profile info (that is, the entire "/players/" folder)?

does this affect your online status too? or is that recognised by your cd-key or login or something?

coz im about to format aswell to do an upgrade..and no way i wanna start ALL over again. doesnt bother me if i lose save files, my online progress is most important.

YES save your ENTIRE player profile. I did and I was able to use my stats for cod4 when I went from xp to vista.

Although, I think I am going to start over since I am getting bored w/ all the guns again.
