streaming video from one comp to another?

Ok, I think I'm in the right forum, so here goes. Ive got my main rig with Vista 64 Home premium. I'm hardwired to my Belkin N-wireless router. I just threw together a bunch of old parts to make a second rig that I've got hooked up to my big screen TV in the living room. This is connected via a Belkin N-wireless network adapter. What I want to do is stream video from my second media hard drive (aka not in the typical "my movies" folder under my account) on my main rig to my second rig on the big TV.

The only way I can figure out how to do it is to drop all my videos in the public folder on my main comp, and pull them up on my secondary. But I really don't want to copy/move hundred of gigs of video. Is there any way to set up a shortcut or something so that I can access my videos off my second hard drive of my main rig by pulling them up on my second computer? I hope that made sense...

Any help would be much appreciated, because my networking experience is limited to setting up a basic wireless home network.

Can't you just share out the second hard drive in Windows?

Then you can access it by \\\\YourComputer\\SecondHardDrive

I think I've tried that and it only allows sharing within the users of this computer. In other words, it doesn't apply to other computers on my network. I might be wrong, or just not setting it up right. If you know it can be done so that I share the whole drive to all computers on a network, can you walk me through it? Thanks

WinAmp Remote (comes with WinAmp)

www.winamp.com

You can stream media in your local network, and even over the internet. All free and its a tiny little program. Its great. Even works for PS3.

Thanks for the suggestion Lude, but I just got it working. I shared my whole drive on my main, then had to manually type in the address on my second comp to get it to pull up. for some reason, there wasn't a link to it or something. Thanks for the help yall!

might I ask how you shared the drive in Vista? I can share any folder I want but never an entire partition. So I have like 30 folders that I had to set up sharing for...and sharing in Vista is a pain.

I right-clicked the drive, clicked share, went to Advanced Sharing in the Sharing tab, and checked "Share this folder". Hope that helps

To make this easier, you can map the 2nd HDD as a network drive on your 2nd PC... To do this in windows XP you just right click my computer and select "map network drive". I dunno if it works the same in vista, but if you just google "mapping network drive windows vista x64" you should get a result

Also. on the main computer you can name your 2nd HDD. IE my 2nd drive (storage drive) is named warehosue... so from a 2nd computer i'd just type \\\\Reaper\\Warehouse to access it
