That article is extremely well-written, but we've all heard these arguments before. A summary, in no particular order:

1) Everyone thought the PS3 would fail in Q4 '07 but Wii shortages saved it
2) Sony threw a crapload of money around to win the format war
3) The PS3 saved Blu-Ray, but Blu-Ray also saved the PS3
4) HD DVD was doing SO WELL in late '07 that it should have won
5) HD downloads are better so ha ha doesn't matter that HD DVD lost so there

So basically Sony used its capital to make a couple very strategic market decisions to come out on top and some people think it's unfair/wasn't meant to me.

I'm not downloading 10GB of anything right now, thank you very much.

Oh good! Let's all either move to Japan or let them have all the HD content. No, Blu-Ray is here to stay, and for a pretty good amount of time too.

All HD is a big scam if you ask me. A nice upscaling dvd player will look the same as a "high def" to the naked eye. Its not worth the expense to go blu ray. Maybe i will get one when my DVD player dies and the price is reasonable. This isn't anything like the switch from VHS to DVD that was a no brainer. DVD to Blu Ray is more like "Oh crap our copy protection isn't so good anymore lets beef it up... what there is left over space on the new fancy disc? meh i guess we can up it's quality a tiny bit."

If I want to rent a movie, downloads are good but can restrain where you watch the movies. Having hard disks is still the better option, in my opinion.

3 to 1 in europe?
I dont believe that for a second 9 out of 10 console users here seem to have 360's over PS3's.

seriously, Im 14 and even I knowtice a major difference from upscaled TV and DVD then to HD. Not to mention there is even an audio difference too. Many many differences.

Not 100% sure if this pertains to this in particularly but Im sure its in the same ballpark. Sitting down 2 hours ago before I watched a good movie (Behind Enemy Lines), and before I decided on it I was watching Without a Trace on the non-HD TNT channel. It looked horrible. And horrible as in, Holy Crap Batman - I see pixelation like a mad man. Then I turned on the HD TNT and was like Ahhhhhh, my eyes just saved a but load of pain by switching to HD!

I would take a guess and say that the non-HD TNT channel was upscaled to my TV's HD (cable box -> HDMI -> AV Reciever -> HDMI -> TV). It looked horrible. Then I turned to the HD TNT and it looked fine. Sounds logical.

There is a difference. Suggest you buy an HD TV.

It is almost uncanny that you state you are 14, and in that very sentence you have 4 errors that surface immediately at first glance. It's like you're begging to not be taken seriously, regardless of the validity of your point.

its all down to what display u have for viewing... HD detail advantage won't get noticed on anything less than 37" 720p. The same goes where u "probably" won't see the improvement of 1080p over 720p on anything less than 42".

basically, there is no need to get a HD player if you don't have the right display to support it.

Figure out a way to compress high-def movies into manageable sizes then patent it.

I disagree on about every point you just made. While it is entirely subjective, 1080p blu ray movies IMO are 100x better than normal DVD9. There's just no comparison. I'd rebuy my entire DVD collection in blu ray or hd dvd. Upscaling is nice, but it's not near as good as true HD.

I'm not sure what copy protection has to do with anything. I never understood that argument by people. I just don't see how it even plays a part unless you're trying to rip the disc, in which case it's not that hard.

Blu Ray and DVD have nothing to do with TV stations. Yes Blu Ray looks much better than regular TV. Regular TV is like 480i even if it is run thru an HDMI cable.
I think you missed my point entirely. Having an upscaled dvd and a blu ray playing side by side on identical HDTVs isn't that much of a difference. It's nothing compared to the difference between VHS and DVD.
