[dailytech] Apple iPhone, iPod touch to Receive Price Cuts - Page 5

Having owned a Blackberry Pearl 8100 and currently owning a Curve 8300, it would be pretty hard for me to switch to the iPhone. I'm used to typing super-fast on my keyboard, I'm used to flying through the menus, options, emails, TXTs, my media and web pages with my trackball. Instant feedback without any delay. A fast phone with a lot more potential (new 4.5 OS coming out soon will allow YouTube, HTML emails, and video recording), so the newer Blackberry phones are continuing to get better without having to upgrade the hardware.

It seems to me that a lot of people that use iPhones do so because they have owned iPods and are comfortable with using an Apple product. I'm not so sure about the iPhone, and a lot of the phone is wrapped in hype. Touch screen? (NOT new technology there. Palms have used touch screens for a long time.) Media storage capacity? Full internet usage? Not much there is really new, except for the interface. My Curve can do all that an iPhone can, and what it can't do, it is about to do with the updated OS. I would rather have a reliable keyboard and trackball than a touch screen any day.

The thing that's new and unique is the "cool factor". Just by glancing at a lot of these multi-purpose phones, the iPhone is MUCH cooler looking than any of them. The interface is also "cool". Granted that's my opinion, but I'm sure many of you would agree. Love it or hate it, the iPhone is a cool device and that's what people want. Sleek and stylish is in, big and clunky is for the birds.

I think the iphone is pretty cool hardware. It isn't "revolutionary" but Apple does do a great job with software and support. You can often find cooler devices but with much poorer support.

What I don't like about the iphone (or any Apple product) is how tight of a leash Apple keeps on it. You have to use itunes and you can only use their software. They keep everything locked down and do not support Java.

My cousin has a iphone and my other cousin has a touch. I tried playing around with them and I had trouble with the touchscreen keyboard, as with any new device. I am sure I would have gotten used to it. Again it is a neat device but nothing special.

That zen has an fm radio, radio recorder, voice recorder, 16.7 millioin color display, and is the best dang thing that ever happened to mp3. It also plays way more formats including divx xvid mpg mpg2 and most of the rest.

idk about you, but to me, that sounds like a good reason to purchase a product... Because you're comfortable with it.

I believe the "new" technology was multi-touch.

Besides, what's with all the "nothing new" against Apple? I don't quite understand - why put them under fire when we know of other companies that rip off of others on much grander scales?

After going through 4 failed creative products, their quality is under my questioning. All my friends in person who have owned creative mp3 players have also experienced hardware problems.
