I would go with the Quads if you are into folding and video editing, but for gaming E8400 is a great choice.

I think the Wolfdales will still be strong in games until the release of Nehalem.

But if you want to quad, wait until April's price drop, the Q6700 will be within $40 of the Q6600. The Q6700 is going to be under $300!
Probably the best bet. What I'm thinking, is racking the cash for awhile, and starting an HTPC. That way, instead of selling all my parts, I can just build a decent HTPC with em.

Waiting til April, could work. Might as well, since I start Firefighter 2 in March, I won't have much time for gaming. Finish with that in June, and by then we may have the new series of GPUs..

I just hate playing Crysis the way it is now.. its kinda choppy.

Wonder if I should wait on new hardware, and put the money into W/C so when i do pick up all this new hardware.. I can O/C it through the roof.

I wouldnt worry about water cooling. There have been posts here and at Xtreme sys about the E8400s degradeing wen running them at 1.45v yet they are only at 63C full load on air cooling. Now people are backing them off to about 1.36v so they dont fry them. So now the heat isnt the factor, the voltage running through them is! So what this means is that you can run the wolfdales at there maximum voltage on air before ever reaching their max temp threshold. SO this will make WCing obsolete, unless of course you are running a TEC...

E8400 OC with 1.45v

Then the overvoltage results

This is coming from someone who is WCing!

Mmmm.. Good thinking. I wonder how much performance W/C is going to enable in the future. I think in the future, the amount of performance you get out of W/C vs. Air cooling is going to be not really worth it, but then again.. I've never w/c'd before.

I hate having the money to upgrade, but not having enough to get all of the upgrades. Frustrating lol.

Well as a fellow FireFighter I would like to say that playing Crysis on my Q6600 at 3.0ghz is about as good as I can ask for all on very high. The Quad Core is very good with all the gaming I do and thats alot. My 48 off is spent playing games and trying to make the wife happy. lol

I was thinking about doing a FF type mod on my TT Armor. Too lazy, and no time.

Don't get a 45nm Core 2 yet. Wait a bit until they get the full line released and start releaseing revisions.

Buying technology on the cutting edge is NEVER a good idea.

Get the Q6600 G0. I found mine on eBay last Friday for $218.

Very nice..

About waiting for new technology to come out, like the new GPU series.. I'm thinking I should just grab 8800GT's now, because the new series of GPU is probably going to be expensive as hell, like my GTS was when I got it.

All thoughts though. Nothing set in stone.
