[Incomplete] Project m998 - Page 18

The tubing looks like a quarter inch thick, i might be wrong, but warfarin would you mind posting a picture from the inside of the case looking at the front bezel. Im curious what our space is for your fans. so far i give the case a 9/10, even with it being not finished, it looks great keep up the good work

My small but devoted audience doesn't seem to like my idea of pushing the PSU out the back of the case.

Ice, the tubing is 5.0 inch OD, 4.5 inch ID. The only metal material I could find that had that inside radius I was looking for. It's the quarter inch thick sides that are killing me.

But then again I have never done any of this so take my advice with a grain of salt. I am just the moral booster here. LOL
I'm sensing a distinct notion that people want me to finish this build lol. Have y'all been talking to my wife?

Side panels. Ahh yes. I needed a change of pace. Thank you MrQ.

recall the original Ultra side panel:

and the Akasa one I picked up:

I'm starting to see why Syrillian loves this stuff so much. Working on it is very... Zen. Everything slows down, even the tools are quieter.

And, the new window, with smoked acrylic and new hardware:

I'm still percolating on that top / PSU treatment. I'm going to have a shroud of some sort regardless. I have to do something, the original top is all hacked up and needs reworked anyway. OK, technically, I could slap a flat panel of aluminum up there, saw a couple holes in it, body shop it up and be done. Couple fan grills for the PSU intake and the single blow hole. Too easy.

I really wanted to work the front IO panel into remake of the shroud though. (one of those things I haven't talked about yet). The shroud would be a perfect place for me to kit that in. All the double blow hole/PSU treatment really means in terms of extra work/time for the build is fashioning something sexy for the back there where the PSU is sticking out. Basically, and extension of the shroud. Structurally, all I need to do is drill 4 holes and the PSU mounting will more solid as it was inside the case.

Maybe I need to sketch up what's in my head. I get the feeling that I'm not explaining my plan very well.

I'll sleep on it.

Great job on that pipe man. It looks massive!! which is a good thing in my eyes. Apartment modding FTW! and believe me I have done my fair share.

I forgot to drill the holes for the fans, so I tacked some up with tape for the pictures... and apparently bassackwards at that.

This is the 5.25 bay:

"Stock" the lower section was stacked up like this (middle bit there was for 3.5 externals):

If the HD's don't go up above under the optical drive, they could go like so:

Or even like so: (If I wanted to cut a bit and show off a RaptorX )

If you look in the pics, there's a notch out of the front of the HD cage which easily allows for a 120mm fan. Just going by eye, I think it might even handle a 38mm, but I haven't measured.

I can install that cage anywhere along the Z axis. It has tapped holes in it already, I just need to drill holes where I want them on my plate. It's plenty strong to hold them. There's 10 size 6/32 screws tying it to the chassis:

I was curious how you would setup your hard drives. I got a mid tower case that the hdd cage is built in with the cd drive bays. Im gonna try and put a 120mm their but my hard drive would be in the way.

On the Swing?

(thanks newegg)

Are you talking about in front of the HD cage there? It looks like there's room, if you do a pretty major hack and slash on your front bezel?

I think maybe I don't understand what you're trying to do.
Dude, I have seen that case. There is a slot for a 120mm on the front. Almost all computers have that. Its standard. Even on crappy bottom ends. Yu shouldn't have to mod the case any just remove the HDD cage. I have a very similar set-up on my Ultra Gladiator.
