Rate my build, and educate me (NewEgg Wish List)

Here's what I have so far, but I don't know if what I have is good. I'm also not sure if I should overclock or not (just in general. I'm not saying with this particular build). I remember some people here telling me that I will save money if I oc. As a DIY'er, is OC'ing the wisest thing for me to do?

I basically want as much education as you can give me for as many of these parts as you wish to talk about.

One thing I think I'm the most concerned about is the mobo. I chose this based on an OCN user's recommendation as I have no idea what I should get.

I mean, if there is anything you disagree with about this build, please tell me and educate me. I want to build a rig that a highly experienced builder would have who's trying to get the lowest-priced system possible while trying hard to cut as few corners as possible. And if any corners must be cut, I would hope they could be cut on the gear that matters the least.

So you have free reign to tell me what you think of this, and how I can get more bang for my buck.

Edited sentence: I know that you might want to take me down to one optical drive. The only reason I want two is I really enjoy the convenience of cutting burning time in half (as I usually burn straight from the source disc). In all honesty, it's not that big of a deal. I can see going with just the burner to add more value to this thing (like removing that dvd-rom to upgrade something else), and then buying a DVD-ROM later.

Also, how are my brand choices? Model number choices? How are my choices in general?

Thank you for letting me bother you with this.

Ok, there we go. If i were you i'd cut down on the RAM, or buy 2x2 GB instead of 4x1 GB. Also, i don't know if you're set on that case, but if i were you i would get:

coolermaster cm 690, I've heard you can get them for $20 after MIR, but i don't know where, anyone?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119137

and an OCZ power supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341012

Oh, also, you'll need to get some decent after market cooling if you want to OC much (you do) might i suggest:

A zalman 7700 AlCu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118114

It's not the best performing heatsink around, but it does a hell of a lot better than stock (and the price is right). I got my e6750 to 3.6 Ghz with it (it got pretty toasty though).

EDIT: Also, that mobo you've picked should be fine, but if you can find one, I'd encourage you to get a DFI blood iron.

Before I look at the links, I have to specify that the memory I chose is 2 x 1GB. It's a dual-channel kit. You had me worried that my posted Public Wish List was corrupt!

?? I looked at the wish list, and it shows 2 sets of 2x1 GB. With a build like yours, 4 GB of RAM is unnecessary, You'd be better off with 2 GB of RAM and using the money saved for an 8800 GT.

The cm 690 is 20$m at microcenter, the rebate is over in a week and a half though. Kick that memory and get some ballistix!!! Crucial ballistix, I got the tracers so mine have led's got my 2X1 gig kit for 45$ after rebate on the egg a while back. I would also HIGHLY recommend the 8800 gt over the gs, here is a link to one thats the 512 mb version and is only 30$ more than that gs.
link
As for cpu cooling, don't keep it stock. The best deal right now is a zerotherm nirvana, 10$ rebate.
link
Otherwise something like an arctic freezer 7 pro would do nicely. good luck!

OH, and screw 4 gigs of ram, unless your runnign a 64 bit OS your system will only use up to three anyways. I do photo and video work and game and 2 gigs is perfectly fine. For ram, tis the speed that counts, not the amount. Getting 2 gigs of ballistix will show much better performance than 4 gigs of that other crucial stuff you had selected.

Let me assure you: When I look at my Public Wish List, it's exactly as I created it: 2GB: 2 x 1GB.

I repeat, everyone, I am not looking at 4GB of RAM.

But even so, it's good to know that I'd be a fool to go with 4GB as I did toy with the idea for a minute.
