[HELP] Query about DDR3 ram & mobo use

Thread Starter
So if I buy a DDR3 mobo that supports only up to DDR3 1333MHz, would a 1600MHz ram be ok? If not, could they be downclocked, or the mobo itself would see 1333MHz but when being used it would use the full 1600MHz??

Also with regards to DDR3 1600MHz which have CL 7-7-7-24, are they OK?

10q

I would not say DDR3 is completely fail. I am going to upgrade sometime soon (probably when prices fall) because it will be the future. The high clock speeds do have the drawback of higher/looser latencies of course.

That is good latency for the first numbers but the last one which stands for tRAS is a little high than some that I was just browsing through (24). Otherwise it looks good to me.

And what about these - 1333MHz with 7-7-7-20

That is as low as I was finding DDR3 for but I just pulled up some to quickly look through. I would buy it if I had the money and a mobo to support it!

Oh! Just found lower latencies.

The RAM looks like crap but it performs better.

RAM can always downclock and motherboards can usually overclock.

The RAM speeds is really up to you. The manufactor is just saying that the RAM can run at least 1600MHz. However, nothing prevents it from running at 1MHz or greater than 1600MHz.
Once again...

That is good to hear. Would I damage the RAM if for example from 1600MHz I would downlock it to 1333MHZ
