[HELP] Query about DDR3 ram & mobo use - Page 2

I don't think it is possible to damage a component from downlocking. Also, when you downlock, I think your latencies will get tighter (I do know they get looser when you overclock).

Can you give a link to the RAM you are looking at?

I am looking at these Patriot and these OCZ. Am looking at the 2*2 of both items.

No, there's no way you will damage ram from underclocking it.

OK that is good to hear. But if I do not underclock it and I leave it at 1600MHz, then how would a mobo that has 1333MHz maximum read it???

That is even better. So, when then I would be using programms that use high RAM, would it then run at 1600MHz or at 1333MHz??

1333mhz. The ram speed does not move up or down in Windows. The only way to adjust it is through your BIOS.

Ram speed doesn't give much (if any) performance gain though, so even if you did up it to 1600mhz in the BIOS (by overclocking your FSB), you won't see much of a difference.

To bad the ram speed does not flactuate I will never overclock RAM just my CPU. So will go for 1333 then. BUT if the 790i would then support 1600MHz DDR3 then I would go for that as one of you said, I would have more room to play but the thing is the Voltage cos I would want it low as the 1333 not the 1600
