You're not going to see a significant enough increase in performance with any of those other options to warrant either spending a ton more money, or losing money on the parts you have. Stick it out for awhile and before you think about the HD3870x2s, wait for the 9xxx series Nvidia cards. They will be cheaper, perform better, and be more future-proof due to the PCI-e 2.0 interface, the 65nm technology, and the onboard physics processing. ATI is in for another round of beatings it seems like.
