hey guys just need some advice iv been looking to buy a 3870 XT so far iv found 2 that i like these are the power colour 3870XT xtreme 512mb (not passive)
and the ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT 512MB , the problem is im not sure which one to buy im thinking about the power colour as its cheper and has the higher clocks but the small fan and heat sink scare me as they look like there gonna give me extremly high temps, does anyone now the pros and cons for these two cards and any surgestions to which card i should buy?, thanks lads

Well, the powercolor cooler is probably going to work just as well as the reference cooler. The concern would be that it's dumping a lot of heat directly into your case. So, if your case is very well ventilated, go with the powercolor. If not, stick with the Plain old ATI 3870.

Hi. Ive got the Power Color 3870 version myself. I doubt its worse than any of the other versions, I havent read the comparisons. The one I have is not hot; mines maxing 55 with a few hours on cod4. It is kinda noisy, its apparently locked on max. I dont notice the noise, buts thats because im ADD and always multi-tasking by watching tv and playing cod4 together. I would look into the max fan issue, if I was you, as you might be disappointed if youre into a quiet system.

Also, Ive found my card is clocked to its max. Maybe its just mine. But it wont budge over the (800/2400) settings for me. Im pleased with its performance so its no biggy right now.

That price for the one you posted is good. I bought mine nearly two months ago for £145

I dont have any issues with this card. It does much better than I expected for the price.

Id buy it if I was you. But I would say that...my daddy owns Power Color (Tul)

With everything enabled and AA max I can multiplayer cod4 at 75fps...occasionally it drops to 55 on a busy map. It does look pretty amazing with everything max, but I always feel like im maybe missing out of performance so I disable AA and a few of the other options.

I get 120 to 150fps with AA off.
