push pull fan config

well i have just bought a new Black Ice Xtreme 360 and I have gotten 3 antec tricools for the front of radiator(the side with the fittings) pushing air and I was wondering if I should go with the same type of fans or faster fans for the pulling in the back of the radiator and should I have a shroud on the fans pulling the airs in the back? thanks for any info

Fans of equal speed would be fine ... I wouldn't go any slower though.
Also, a shroud isn't required but it does improve cooling by eliminating some of the "dead-zone" produced by the center hub of the fan. Most peeps feel that 1.75" ( 44.45mm ) is a good shroud thickness for this purpose.

Yes use the same fans on both sides...

Here is a way of using cheap 120mm x 38mm fans as shrouds on my Black Ice Extreme rads.
I cut the centers out of these five fans and using the housing as a shroud with my 141 CFM delta fans on them.

I think it matters how extreme you want to get.
What are you cooling and do you OC much?
Does noise matter?
Do you have a sturdy wall behind the comp because if you cool like By-Tor a thin wall will be blown away.

lol well my temps are ok with a GTS240 with 2x antec tricools in push config. I know i was going to do a push pull now with 3 79cfm fans pushing in front and 3 >79cfm fans pulling in the back. only the pushing fans in the front have shrouds atm and i was planning to not include shrouds in the back 3 pulling shrouds because i do not have enough room behind my case ... well how much of a diff would the shrouds not on the back make?

I dont think having the would matter at all. (especially since you have the fronts.) I think the shrouds are to help eliminate the dead spot in the center of the fans.

My thinking is if your comp is not extreme OCd than having 6 fans wont make much more diff than 3.

I am really curious to see if there is a diff, I will Rep the heck out of you if you check the temps with 3 and 6 fans to see if there is a difference.

On thicker and higher fin per inch rads pull seems to work best for me, so if I could only have shrouds on one side i would put it on the pull side...If you don't have a heavy load on your rad push-pull might not help a lot but it sure wont hurt either, a couple of C is a couple of C...

..Poll: Push or pull configuration for Radiators

..Part 1- Temp's with and with-out shrouds

I have a hard time reading rows of #s (my mind wanders, lol) What I was trying to say is it depends on the amount of heat you are trying to get rid of.
The links were a comp using Pelts (extreme) so there was a lot more heat to get rid of so more fans mattered.
But if you just have a simple CPU, GPU there is a lot less heat to get rid of so the rads and fans wouldnt have as much work to do.
I hope this makes sense, I just got up and need coffee.
