3850 BSOD help please

Thread Starter
I installed my 3850 about 3 weeks ago and have to deal with the BSOD every time I try and play a 3D game (COD4 or Airborne). Some times I can play the games without issue but everytime exit the game I get the BSOD. Not sure what it says on the blue screen because it happens too fast before it re-starts.
I have removed all the ASUS software/drivers that came with the GPU and now use the newest ATI drivers and CCC. Updated my Bios, re-moved and reset the card, tried running the fan at 100% using rivatuner but no luck.
Nothings is OC on my system (not yet anyway) so I can't figure out what the problem could be.
Any help would be appreciated.

If this issue has been discussed elsewhere please point me in the right direction.

I'm getting this too, I've got a thread up about it.

Clicky

Although I'm not lucky enough to be able to enjoy the games that're crashing, it tends to crash before I get on the game or shortly into it.

If I get anywhere with it, rest assured, I'll let you in on the secret, I'm fairly sure you have to 'trick' these ATI cards into working . Never had a problem with my 6600 pci-e, overclocks like a beast too.

How would you feel about running your games in directx 8? I know I'm not chuffed about it... Limited HDR, other options disabled etc...

I'm still looking for a proper fix though, so if I find it, I'll still keep you posted.

What is the BSOD's Stop Error Code?

And usually, BSOD's are caused by ram. Unless your Video Card is defected.

Same here. Seems odd that ram would cause a problem only in directx9.

I've just been to the MS website and installed the Directx Redistributable Runtime.

It changed something, because this time I was booted out of the game to a 640x480 8bit(?) desktop. Upon resetting my default resolution, hey presto, BSoD.

Well I figured I would try the Omega driver instead of ATI but same problem, I played the game for about 15 minutes but as soon as I quit BSOD.
It seems as the problem happens when I switch from 3d to 2d....does that make sense???

Video Card problem then. Should try on another computer.

I haven't another computer with PCI-e, but I'll try my old GPU.

Well, tomorrow anyway... It's 4:30 am for gods sake... Bloody computer keeping me up all night!

Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced Tab > Start Up & Recovery section > Settings button > System Failures > Uncheck the automatic restart box. This will simply prevent Windows from automatically restarting when it crashes.

Also while you're in there, if there is a check box in the other two options under System Failure (by default there should be) you can use the Event Viewer to find the previous blue screen of death. This is useful if you're having a problem reproducing the issue. To do this: Right click My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer > System.

Once you have the information from the BSOD you can post it here for my assistance or do a bit of research yourself.

I also own a 3850 (512 MB) and the only BSOD I've had it due to Paging Memory, which is an issue with my virtual memory - it has nothing to do with the GFX card. It was a simple fix, I just adjusted the minimum size.

In any case, good luck.
