Thread Starter
The Mobo i'll be getting with my system is the 780i, which has intergrated 7.1 sound. What's the advantage of a separate sound card?

In two words: Sound Quality. Thats all. I can't explain the difference but you will feel it.

Clarity and sound quality, also it takes a small load off your cpu if you have one with some internal ram like a xfi

everything. for gaming the x-fi will make a large difference, especially if the game supports EAX, everything just sounds more real in gaming. If you have a surround system, your integrated sound won;t be able to send 2-channel sources to all speakers very well and you can hear a distinctive change in quality when it comes to movies and music. My 5.1 system had a buttin which letms me "emulate" surrounf and it sounded terrible. The X-fi emulates surround extremely nicely, and egain with a nice crisp sound and attemps to seperate instruments to seperate speakers with a surround system. You also have so many options to play with so you can customize your sound card to please your own ears.

If you have good speakers, investing on a sound card such as X-Fi will make a huge difference(Keep away from Xtreme Audio though)......some of the davanteges are that ull get nice movie experience with Dolby/DTS decoding, High Fidelity Audio,Realistic effects for games(Advanced HD)....Lots of things over the onboard....Does all the processing on the card......

if someone who never had a soundcard ask about benefits from an add-in soundcard.... you don't just blurt "sound quality".... it doesn't matter much to them

tell them this.... especially for gamers.... imagine that you will have both good gameplay graphics and you can almost feel like you're in the game since the sound is almost like real life.

it's like playing games in theaters

but.... yes... there's a but..... you have to have a decent set of speakers at least.
