Here come the flames...

The failure rate for 360s used to be around 40% due to overheating, but they are, apparently, doing a bit better.

its down to 18percent. If yours is new you prolly have a falcon chip in it meening less overheat time. And less failure rate.

I always found that strange too. I have an original Premium system, bought it within the first 3 months of release and I have never had a problem. I often leave it on for days at a time. I will play for 8 hours straight (hey! there is nothing to do in kuwait ) and never once has it overheated.

I think it is more to do with users putting them in poorly ventilated areas, or cramping them in with that furnace called a power supply. Not to say that all of the problems are caused by this, but I think many more than people like to admit. As with many problems, the source lies between the chair and keyboard controller.

You dont have to worry about it overheating and dying. RRoD is caused by the cycles of Hot/cold it can break the solder joints on the video chip ( normally what causes RRoD) even if it rrod M$'s repair program is great you dont have anythign to worry about.

yeah i wasnt sure.................i love it so far, my friends crapped out on him just a few days ago and MS told him its because he leaves it plugged in all the time, and when he gets it back from them he needs to unplug the unit after he is done playing it, even if its for an hour then plug it in and play......seems weird but oh well, i have a 60 inch DLP inside an enormus entertainment stand so im not gonna be unplugging mine after each use thats for sure

my 360 will get too hot and lag a lot...but i fixed it with an extra fan inside the case and made some venting holes...works perfect now (except for the damaged dvd-reader )
and i have this 360 from the first month it came out so i say the "problems" are overrated

yeah i just had a spare 60mm fan lying around...cut the plug off and stuck the wires in the other fan-connector and it already worked.
just superglued it to the cpu heatsink and...instant cooling

thanks, i checked and yes i was lucky enough to get the falcon chip (65nm)

if anyone is intrested to know what chip they have this is how you check

1. you have to have a wattage of 175w NOT 203w
2. it needs to be made by team FDOU
3. has to have a lot # of 738 or higher

if you have none of those then you have a 95nm Zephyr chip not the 65nm falcon chip
