#1. Play the DRM game (lie down with dogs, sell a few fleas)

#2. Put some skin in the game, and bundle DVD and HD DVD

#3. Mission Impossible: Get HD DVD integrated into the Xbox 360

Only now does it seem like a good idea to put a HD-DVD drive in a Xbox360. Thats only because the PS3 has come such a long was in lowering cost.

Plus there was a lot of problems with the Blu-ray lazer things dieing.

M$ played it safe. And if HD-DVD would have won I'm sure PS3 sales would still be way down.

Do the consoles make up most of the sales for the respective players?

For example: are most BRD players in homes PS3s instead of standalone BRD players?

Dec 07-2.7total, including both
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...yers_Sold/1228
July 07-6 milling PS3s worldwide
http://nexgenwars.com/gaming-news/ps...ales-worldwide

So you can bet a good majority of those sold were PS3s.

Well a stand-alone Blu-ray player is about 350-400$(The cheapest I’ve seen is 350$), so a smart person (Not that I think that there are many of them now days) would buy a PS3 if shopping in that price range.

Not only do you get a Blu-ray player and a game system you get an all around multi media device. I have a bunch of DVDs that I have ripped and converted for my Zune on my PS3, As well as music.

So for 400$ you could ether have a Game system/Movie player/Music player/Pic viewer/internet access thing/ Full-fledged computer (If you put Linux on it).

Or you can have a Blu-ray player that does that and probably music.

That is why I think PS3 makes up a good part of Blu-ray player sales.
That and the pages that the guy ^^^^^ posted.

I'm not saying that your stupid if you bought a stand alone Blu-ray player its just I feel you money would have been better spent on something that is about the same price and offers many more features.

Also don't forget that stand alone BD players aren't upgradeable like the PS3 is. most are still profile 1.0 or 1.1. the ps3 can be updated to support 2 when that is released and beyond that.

also didn't they make dvd/hd dvd combo disks? i always thought that was smart
