If MS put the HD-DVD drive in the 360 i say 50% failure rate.

WORD! I said the same thing.... 360 is an all around FAIL in my opinion, They rushed it out, knowing that the old media type (DVD) wasn't going to have enough space for future games, no HD movie support (Unless you count the now worthless HD DVD add on), and the numerous compadability issues and hardware fails.........Oh yeah..... NO STANDARD HARD DRIVE! That means no advanced caching system like the original X Box,Iheard that's why Unreal is taking so long.

I says.........FAIL!!

I don't personaly own either system, but the PS3 is clearly the better system here, HANDS DOWN. Sorry if that hurts any fanboy feelings, I no longer offer any allegence to Microsoft, only thing I need them for is XP.....And Vista when they force me

Except that swapping a red laser with a blue one isn't going to add any more heat to the system.

Of the 600,000 HD DVD players sold in the US, 300,000 were the 360 add-ons, according to Toshiba.

Not only do you get a Blu-ray player and a game system you get an all around multi media device. I have a bunch of DVDs that I have ripped and converted for my Zune on my PS3, As well as music.

So for 400$ you could ether have a Game system/Movie player/Music player/Pic viewer/internet access thing/ Full-fledged computer (If you put Linux on it).

Or you can have a Blu-ray player that does that and probably music.

That is why I think PS3 makes up a good part of Blu-ray player sales.
That and the pages that the guy ^^^^^ posted.

I'm not saying that your stupid if you bought a stand alone Blu-ray player its just I feel you money would have been better spent on something that is about the same price and offers many more features.
I tried explaining that to my father who is in the market for a HDTV and the like. The idea of him buying a video game machine to play movies is appalling. What you say makes sense to us, but not to older generations.

There would have needed to be a 360 SKU with a built in HD DVD drive from the very launch of the console in order to have that effect. But I agree with you. When MS was getting ready to launch the Elite, I kept hoping for a built in HD DVD drive...I'd have bought one of those instead of a stand-alone. That would have been one expensive console though.

Yes exactly. People who scraped together enough money to buy a 360 werent going to be thrilled to spend another $100 on an uneccessary feature. They were more concerned about winning the console war so they wanted to keep prices down.

Sony was smarter by forcing people to pay more to get the blu-ray drive, hence driving their format to victory. Sony knew their console was technologically superior so its price tag was justified to consumers and it would still sell ok.

Sony was thinking further into the future and M$ just got out strategized.

There was no way for them to win. Sony makes too many movies. Far more than they made when Betamax lost to VHS.

and yet the xbox 360 still has outsold the PS3 2-1 and by the time the PS3 catches up...

the Xbox 720 will be out.
