[BBC] Neuro Headset for gamers - Page 3

Imagine the response time you'd have to have in COD4 now. Something distracts you and you run into a wall. Somehow, I just can't see this working well. We just don't know enough about how the mind works.

gimmick
It'll be like the "cool 3D headset controllers that put you in the middle of the action!" things that only the CIA/military versions really work.

Gaming hardware specialist Steve Hogarty over on PC Zone magazine said of the Emotiv headset earlier today:

“Well, it's pretty silly really. A $300 headset is unlikely to be responsive enough to allow you to fully control a first-person shooter with the same degree of accuracy as a mouse and keyboard - so I don't think there's a chance of this ever replacing current control methods.

“What's interesting however, are the possible applications it might have beyond simply controlling your character - if this headset can read emotions, perhaps the game could change the music and atmosphere to suit your state of mind.

"In a horror game, the game could time its scares perfectly by knowing when you're at your most nervous. Of course, these are gimmicky features, and I can't see games developers investing time and money implementing them into their games.â€

I don't agree with this. The sheer demand of this market will increase it's importance, and th support of this product will ultimately impact and support future versions, even if it's not with the same company-- other investors will gain interest. The ability to control your computer to any degree without physical interaction is a step in the right direction and obviously a step into the future of information technology. People were saying the exact same crap when the mouse was invented.

But the price and size of EEG hardware is shrinking. NeuroSky's "dry-active" sensors don't require gel, are the size of a thumbnail, and could be put into a headset that retails for as little as $20, said NeuroSky CEO Stanley Yang.

NeuroSky is a technology, reports MyTreo, that captures a person’s brainwave signals, eye movements, and other bio-signals via a patented Dry-Active sensor headset allowing users to control a computer or a mobile device with thoughts in the mind.
Watch this YouTube video-- it's NeuroSky's product where this guy is actually playing a game with the headset

...it looks just like the gravity gun in HL2...
