first of all: i'm a nub.

alright so i basically have a p 4 @ 2.4 ghz(478) and i just "found" a p4 same type as mine , fits on the motherb but runs on 3.0 ghz, my question is, will it improove my pc's speed? and if i put it, do i have to install it or it just recognizes automatically?

thanks

you might have to do a bios update but for the most part you should just have to put it in

You should notice a difference between 2.4 and 3.0. Is this new 3.0 processor new in the box or OEM?

Throw it in and try it out!

Make sure the heatsink ( the copper or aluminum thing with fins thats on top of the CPU) is on securely with some thermal paste (a material the goes between the CPU and heatsink and transfers the heat better than straight copper to CPU contact) on it.
