E8400 OC atempts... - Page 7

I personally wouldn't go over 1.36v for 24/7 use on air. I draw the line at 1.4v for benching... only my opinion

I'm a bit miffed that people are blaming Intel for saying that 1.45v was safe when they never even hinted that such was the case. The maximum limits listed are to be taken into consideration by mobo makers so they can make sure they have proper power circutry if they want to support these chips.

As opt33 has explained, when loads change rapidly there will be dips and spikes in voltage. 1.45v is what the 45nm chips are designed to handle for fractions of a second at a time, not for extended use. Such spikes are also one of the reasons why totaly removing vdroop is a bad idea. Such droops are intentional, to limit the voltage of spikes, when loads go from high to low.

And if you want accurate voltage readings, get your multimeter out.

I run mine at 4.4GHZ @ 1.55v 24/7 no problems so far. Temps are 32 idle and 58 dual prime with liquid cooling. This has been for about 3 months now... Figure if this chip dies I'll buy the e8500.
