well i will not be raiding 2 drives i need lots of space for this project all that will be happening is that the drives will just be written to constantly. so that is why i wanted to know reliability.

I don't know how 2 500 gb drives magically become 1 1tb drive, or how raiding 2 500 gb drives for redundancy = a 1tb drive, or why people are worried about the drive dying.

Just get a 1 TB Seagate 7200.11, two if possible (reduncancy) or maybe a smaller (250gb) drive for backups. But that is all if your paranoid, so 1 is fine.
