Vista is only good if you have a ton of ram to waste. It uses up way too many resources.

You also need a HIGH end GFX card and a quad-core.

Wrong.

Vista 64-bit runs just fine. Makeing assumptions based on hearsay is ridiculous. Vista does not use that much ram, and does not require a high end gpu+quad.

Go post your slander elsewhere

On-topic: I would say XP 64bit or Vista SP1 64bit. they run pretty damn close with my current PC

XP. I prefer 32-bit but give x64 a try first; you may not have the problems I did.

I would just completely forget about vista. Gaming takes a huge hit with no benefits from DX10 as well a numerous other problems.

Actually, I've talked to so many people that have used it and had their fps drop by 30-40. Only people I've seen not have a problem are those who have 4GB or more, or flukes. Most people I talk to who have 1 or 2GB of RAM saw poor performance in their new computer and reformatted and installed XP and saw a good performance boost.

I switched back from XP Pro 64 bit to the 32 bit version recently due to driver and program issues. The Creative X-Fi drivers didn't fully support 64bit XP. Several games and applications i use would not work either - even in compatibility mode. Microsoft doesn't even support its own Zune software on 64bit XP! Vista 64 bit is the better bet if you must have 64bit OS since companies are more inclined to write drivers for it than the older XP 64bit.
