Temperatures Drop Under Load??

Thread Starter
I am experiencing some sort of anomaly or something. I recently bought the intel 2.4 quadcore and I am cooling it with a tuniq tower. When it is idling, the cpu ranges between 49C and 52C. Under full load with all 4 cores at 100% the temperature drops to 37-38C. All of my fans are going the same speed, and nothing else is changing. I am completely stunned at this and can not understand how it runs cooler under load. Does anyone have any ideas?

Why are you assuming the software is accurate? You know what the software is saying is wrong.

Open up Coretemp, Intel TAT and Speedfan and see what they say.

Is the fan on automatic control? And if so, is it spinning a lot faster when temps go up?

If not then the software is wrong.

No I manually control the fan speed. Im getting these readings from Core Temp and Intel Desktop Utilities. I dont understand how this could be.

Sounds like you could be measuring from Tcase max or whatever it's called. It will take your max temp, and subtract that from your current temp and give you a reading. I know there is an option like this on CoreTemp. Could be turned on by chance...

Im not an idiot, I know when my pc is idling and when its under full load. I had all four cores maxed out with four separate copies of orthos. The only thing I can think of is maybe bios isnt correctly reporting the temps, but it was fine when I had my e6600 in. The only thing I changed was the cpu - same bios and everything.

i think the problem lays in the quad, did you put it in correctly? if its put in backwards temps are backwards, instead of heating during load, it cools off, so technically, your tuniq is warming the cpu up
