wine with real windows

Thread Starter
What would happen if you have a dual boot situation and while in wine mounted the windows drive to ~/.wine/drive_c/ and tried to run some of the things using wine?... I don't really know how wine works all that well, but that's a really cool experiment that I am yet to conduct... This would of course require NTFS drivers which we all know are a rarity... Would probably need to use the captive driver (the one that uses ntfs.sys)... This is yet another thing I want to play with... Thank god for vmware, else experiments like this would be way too inconvenient to conduct...

So yeah, if none of you have done this experiment yet I am indeed going to attempt it tonight... If things like notepad work I'll move on from there and try out some 3D games and see what happens... This will be really funny... oh man...

It's moments like that that I wish I had my new computer already... (just a few more days!..... hopefully.......)

I tried to do something similar before, but alas it failed.

Thats not a good idea.... Install your Windows proggies under WIne on your Linux Intall.. What happens is that your WIne proggies get added to your menu under ~/home/your-username/.local. Those files will control the way Wine executes them... Plus Your WIne Proggies Get installed under ~/,wine./drive c/ This will save you many a hassle!!!

It might run, but you have absolutely no guarantee that it wouldn't screw with windows. Wine has a good bit of overhead associated with it

?

Wine doesn't work the same as a VM.

That's one of the ways you can get WoW to work under wine, but I suppose each program will react differently

Yeah, Wine fubared my Warcraft III install when I tried running it off my NTFS partition.. So if you try anything of that sort, make a backup.

It would not matter
wine dose not act like core library on top of the kernel, it merely a " translator" for libc
and other environmental programs (like X)
