Compaq vs. Sony

Thread Starter
I'm buying a new laptop but I'm afraid I'm a bit over my head. I can't find specs on the 7000m graphics card in one of the laptops.

Compaq
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1195598868093

Sony
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1195600207253

I'm not familiar with Intel processors so I don't know if the larger cache makes the laptop runs faster than the AMD. I know either aren't super high end and all I need it is for work, home(music, movies, etc) and some light WoWing.

Any opinions or first hand accounts would be appreciated.

If you have a desktop, travel a lot, and game a lot, don't spend any more than 1000-1500$ on a laptop. Forget about low-end dedicated mobile VGA solutions as they won't let you enjoy gaming... any desktop build beats a laptop gaming build for the same price range. And after owning an 8800GTS, you will be seriously dissatisfied with the performance of your mobile gpu and you'll never make use of it out of sheer frustration. Instead dedicate your money towards getting a lappy that's thinner, lighter and has a better CPU at the expense of the low-end dedicated VGA.

If you do not have a desktop, travel a lot, and want to game a lot then you should be looking at a laptop that's very expensive.

I know. I'm just looking for something that is lighter and easier to carry around while I'm at work and school. Its going to be one of those two laptops, just cant decided if the larger L2 cache on the Vaio is better or the Faster Processor on the Compaq is better.

And out of those two, which has the better video card. The GMA X3100 or the GeForce 7000m?

I would just go On Dell's website and get yourself an $800 Vostro 1500 with a core 2 duo, and 8400M video card. Do not buy the RAM off thier website just get another stick cheap off Newegg

From what Im reading the 7000m has some dedicated memory and can be expanded with the system ram. My biggest concern is the 1mb of L2 Cache on the Sony vs the 512kb on the Compaq. Is that going to make a huge difference?
