Headphones for Jazz and Classical - Page 3

So, this summer then, I have a lot of stuff to buy...

Self Hijack. Is the Firestone Battery Cute II a good portable amp that could also be used with my computer? I was thinking about getting a Battery Cute II early in the summer, and then perhaps a Spitfire DAC to run from my PC to that Amp. While the Little Country amp looks nice, I can't justify the price at this point in time.

Pick up some HD580s, HD600 grilles, and an HD650 cable. =D You'll need a good amp to really bring the best out of them.

Edit: Dude, get off the Firestone obsession... there are better choices for the price.

no it shouldn't be expanding either, but narrowing should be even worse
and i have heard many amps do that.
it's a given fact, most amps(even cables) give coloration to the sound....

that very strength of sennheiser is precisely why sennheiser still can't have wider soundstage than ATH cans.

ATH cans excels in lower and higher frequencies and slightly laid back in mid frequency, while some might find it unsuitable for jazz and any music with lotsa bold vocals, it does boost soundstage and separation, especially music with complicated arrangements such as orchestras and classicals.

it's a win some lose some situation... you can't have it both perfectly.

k... i'm goin to hit the sack now.... sleepy *yaaawn*
I've listened to AKG's Senn's, Grado's, Beyer's, ATH's, and others and when I pop in a Jazz disc my go to cans are my HD580's. My ATH cans stay next to my computer and are for gaming only. And yes, I've heard higher up ATH cans... tried both classical and jazz. Senns sound better. Much more open and airy. ATH's tend to add a bit too much top and sparkle

now that is not true, especially on ATH-W series.
i still think you haven't paired ATH cans with the right amp to perform mutual synergy, and perhaps you should try tweaking your own cables to suit you best...

but then again.... you already in love with sennheiser too much....

Wow...

Guys, as Chipp has said, headphones are preference. There is no yes or no answer in headphones. If Soloz think that ATHs have too much high end, then that's how he hears it, and it's true. If you think ATHs are the greatest thing to happen to mandkind, that is how you hear it, and it's equally true for you. As for me, I have listened to jazz and classical on my A900s, and it just doesn't feel right. They are too bass heavy, and they just don't feel airy enough. The closed design is great for gaming and some music, but I want my jazz and classical to just kind of wash over my ears, and the A900s are a little too up front and direct sounding for me. And the Grados have that nice open, airy feel, but they are also very up front with their sound, which is great for rock, but not what I'm looking for for classical or jazz.

And about Solz' cables, you do know he makes all of his own cables from some of the highest quality materials, right? He knows what he likes, and he knows how to make it sound like he wants it. Don't attack him just because his opinion doesn't match yours.

I don't think Bear was attacking soloz. He just feels that soloz hasn't performed adequate tests.

AKG K240S or AKG K240M

these cans put any volcalist right in front of me, at least on the jazz front, but when it comes to classical, its nice and warm and airy and instrument placement is nice and spaced out, like sitting RIGHT in front of the orchestra. the Studio series arent too detailed, but i actually prefer them to my K240M's at least wehn it comes to jazz.

hope you have an amp :]

He consistantly insists AT is the best headphone for basically anything, and seems to think Sennheiser is junk.

I, for one, feel what powertrip said has been needed to be said for a while.

Trust me, if anyone on this forum has done adequate audio testing, it's Soloz. I'm beginning to thinkg DJ has only listened to his A900s and perhaps some HD555s or some low end Senns if he thinks that Audiotechnica is amazing at jazz. It is pretty much common knowledge that A900's weakness is lighter music...
