No Icons In Control Panel

Thread Starter
So... yesterday there was a power surge. Notice that I have a RAID 0 array *sigh* I don't have a UPS, so I began the process of reinstalling Vista. I know that I have had a problem similar to this before, but it usually stops after a reboot. It won't this time. Whenever I open almost anything dealing with the system (e.i. Control Panel, Windows Update, Network and Sharing Center, etc.) I either get a window with no icons, or the window doesn't appear whatsoever. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I noticed it to be a popular problem, but I haven't found any solutions that work yet...

Not really sure, but I think it involves Windows activation.

Does the control panel open for a split second then close? I had that issue (something to do with something in the control panel with an error). check this out: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/23...ol-panel-issue. It fixed my issue. Hope it fixes yours!

Sounds like a problem I had not long ago, I believe it's related to nvidia drivers. You need to go to services, but since your control panel won't open, this is how you do it.

1. Double click into my computer.
2. On the left pane, click control panel, then administrative tools.
3. Click on Services.
4. If SL UI notification is not started, right click on it and start it.
5. Then right click Software Licensing, then click restart for it.

After it restarts, your control panel and everything else should be back. I had this happen a few times, but hasn't happened lately. Make sure you have the newest nvidia drivers. Let me know if that works .

edit- just saw wall socket's link, same solution, different way, but that should do it bud!
