Amd or Intel for gaming...

Thread Starter
I am about to build my first gaming pc. I was all set up to purchase the components with an Amd cpu and motherboard with an Nvidia 8800GS gpu. All I needed to do was figure out what power supply to use. Now themore reasearch I do the more undecided I become. AMD or Intel? I chose Amd mainly from the cash standpoint. I am on a Budget. The Amd set up for the parts I needed was at $360 less Power supply. I was looking to spend around $500. Please Help!!! Any suggestions?

Intel is way better for gaming, for instance you could go quad and get a Q6600 for about 300 or dual and go for a 3.0 GHZ E8400 (a sick cpu btw), You can also get a good P35 Mo bo but you should ask around here for which one is best for what you want. The new line up of intel cpu's are going to kick ass.

EDIT: the E8400 is only 250$ and thats pretty good for a 3.0 GHZ cpu

I have a P5N-E SLI but i havent bought a second 8800gt yet and im not sure it i ever will.

As far a good Power supply I would reccoment a Antec Trio 550 or 650 I have the 550 and it runs great, the 650 is only about 120 at ncix http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...ufacture=ANTEC
Even if you dont go intel thats a good psu

intel all the way man!!! go with a dual core for gaming, or a quad for multi tasking.

If I go wit Intel I was thinking more along the lines of a E2160 or E2180 and oc the heck out of it or as far as i can with air cooling. What is a good oc Intel motherboard?

Assuming that you don't have any parts compatible with the new parts you want to buy, AMD offers best bang for buck. With $500 you can definitely purchase a cheap gaming rig.

This would have been true before the E2xxx Intel CPU's came out. However, with the E2xxx series, Intel now has all segments of the gaming market covered and better than anything AMD can offer.

Go with the E2160 and an Abit IP35-E or Gigabyte P35-DS3L board. You won't be disappointed.

Btw, E8400 is $199 at Microcenter. A steal, IMO.
