Because 3DMarks don't really mean squat.

They are sort of true. However 8600's beating 7900's and 7950's in 3DMark, but then usually loosing to them in actual games proves just how meaningless they are.

That is why MaximumPC and a few other places only use benchmarks that they make themselves, and will only use real apps that use the video card, not just test it.

I know 3DMarks mean squat, but I just heard that the 2900 wasn't a good card for gaming with. Obviously i was misinformed.

It is fine for gaming, its just that it is a benchmark special. Like the 8600's it benchmarks beyond its actual capabilities.

I think it resides in the 8800GTS 320 - > 8800GTS 640 range.

I have yet to see a game with an ATI/AMD logo on the back or intro.

Nvidia works closely with developers on many games, helping them optimize their games.

The gains really aren't that great, but they are there.

EDIT: just looked and it is. its sad the ultras were on top for so long and it took 4 GPUs to bring it down. that is going to show you how powerful the new 9800 series will be.
Where do you see 4 gpus????

2 x 2900xt's were used.

I had thought the 2900's had the record before this? Also, I thought it was known that the 2900's OC much better (under extreme cooling) than the 3870's. Hence, why the 2900's do better than xfire 3870's.

The 2900 is a great overclocker. I had my core up to 974 under H20. the downside, there was only a 100 3dmark gain from the care at 875, lol. I kinda wish I didn't fry it. Considering the Pro could be OC's to XT type speeds and was only $170, it was one of the best deals going.
