load is the amount of amperage that you are drawing from the PSU, not having anything plugged into the PSU provides no load, it will most likely NOT blow up your PSU, but as with all electronics, you want to run them as close as possible to the way they are meant to be run, they all have set tolerances, voltages, etc. Running just a pump is fine though..

and running it for a few minutes without anything drawing power whouldnt be a problem either, but i like to have at least a fan or light or something plugged in as a precautionary measure =)

what is without load?

I'm not an electrician, and I am not formally trained; but, I have never had an issue with a PSU going bad when jumping and running.

I have run a PSU for 24-hours with only the Pump and the Radiator fans on.

Hmmm... can anyone else comment on the "blowing up" thing? Is there truth to that? It just seems to me that the quality PSU's today would have some sort of failsafe to prevent damage and/or fire regardless of the varying load within the spec'd tolerances.

^i just did, and to re-iterate, it should not be a problem.

But when you're talking about enough voltage to cook a turkey (or jack the ripper) caution is a plus
