22" LCD: Need Suggestions

Thread Starter
I am planning on upgrading my monitor pretty soon. I am currently using a Dell E207WFP, which is an "economy" model. My gaming experience isn't so great with this monitor, especially since it is a 6-bit screen, 5ms response, and 800:1 contrast. Colors are OK, but fast-paced gaming isn't so great. Ghosting and blurring is a constant bother. It's nice having a 20" widescreen LCD, but this just isn't cutting it.

I am looking for a 22", with 2ms response, and good contrast ratio. I know there is a Samsung that fits the bill, but has a contrast ratio of only 700:1. Any suggestions?

Also, what I am concerned about, is the fact that the 22" LCD's that I have seen have 1680x1050 resolution, the same as a 20". Why is that? Shouldn't the resolution be higher? Because of it being a larger screen, won't the picture be less sharp since the pixels aren't as densely packed as a 20" LCD is? Or is the difference not even noticeable?

Has been rated very high among the 22" monitor competition. It's not 22" but it is in the same class (1680x1050) native resolution.

Wish I had some extra dough to pick another monitor up.

Hope this helps!

I went and priced out the cheapest 22" monitor between newegg and tigerdirect and got a Hyvision monitor. I love it, the resolution doesn't look skewed at all, everything looks crisp. I think I am running 5ms response time and I don't notice any ghosting when I game. Also, if you have a console it is really helpful to have composite cables to directly plug it in to your computer. I use the monitor as a tv when I go to console gaming parties. Hope this helps.

I like my LG 22" 3000:1, works fine but I hear Samsung makes a better unit.
Quality-wise, they are all close. Many manufacturers use different tactics in contrast and response rates to confuse the consumer, so don't buy into the speed numbers and contrast #'s.
Check product reviews, most are good because consumers don't want to admit to buying junk, look for reviews with less bad pixels and darker blacks onscreen.
Samsung is proven, but most are fine anyway.
My older 22" Viewsonic was good for about a month, refused to work on day. Power switch button jammed up and froze dead.
