hardly, why be soo judgmental without giving it a shot? it's nothing like doom. this game actually has stragety, and there's no single player either. it's one of the most popular 3rd party mods for hl:1. once ns:s comes out no doubt it will be just as popular of a 3rd party mod, probably by 10x
HERE'S THE DOWN LOW OF THE GAMEPLAY:
aliens you get:
offensive, that shoot spikes at enemies
movement, that warp you to other movement chambers (good if your hive is being attacked if you have 1 at the hive you can warp to it)
sensory, that cloaks whatever is around it per a certain radius.
defensive, that heals players, hives
put 3 of each chamber gives you upgrades
movement give you a choice of:
more speed, more recovery, silence
sensory give you a choice of:
cloak, 2x damage, scent of fear (shows everyone on marines)
defensive chamber give you a choice of:
extra armor, regeneration, redemption ( warps you to hive when health is low) heals players near it
each hive unlocks a new ability (you get 3 total/4 total abilities, each go up per hive/chamber) each alien gets different abilities:
skulk: eveyone starts off as this, it can climb on walls, and go upside down, 1st hive, gets bite, parasite, 2nd hive, leap, 3rd hive gets self exposion that can kill many marinies (i've killed 7 before in one explosion)
gorge: 1st hive, gets spit, heal, 2nd hive bile bomb, 3rd hive gets web (in ns:s you will be able to have 1 gorge control all players upgrades, like marines)
lerk: 1st hive, gets bite, spores, 2nd hive, damage reflecting spores, 3rd hive gets scream that speeds up your attack/ other teamates attack (speed up healing hives, ect...)
fade: 1st hive, gets swipe, blink (darting across map), 2nd hive, self heal, 3rd hive gets acid rocket
ono: 1st hive, gets horn, eating ability, 2nd hive, stomp, 3rd hives gets charge
skulk= sneaks around, gets the name "ankle and face biter"- i like to call them
gorge= that builds chambers, hives, and heals
lerk= gases, flies, and can pick up
fade= 2 legged with the ability to dash across areas fast, uses swipe, acid rockets
ono= huge rhyno? has ability to eat marines, stomp, and charge, horn but
marines get jetbacks, heavy armor, smg, sg, hmg, genade launchers, nades
command chair= controlls all players upgrades on marine, get this destroyed and you lose, can give players health/ammo packs. like the gorge of aliens. commander can put players into squads
obversatory= decloaks your base for a certain radius so no aliens can sneak up inside, marine upgrades are phase gate (that's like a movement chamber to marines), decloak ping for hives/chambers, and movement radar. can also warp all players back to base for whatever reason
armory= for self ammo, upgrade for heavier weapons/grenades (as everything else if destroyed you lose upgrades), you drop guns here, and welders
turret machine= build this and get a good amount of turrets to place, upgrade again to get "siege guns" that shoot through anything, if you ping it (good for siege maps, get into later) ie, hives, chambers. can also be electrified
armor lab= this upgrades your weapon damage/armor, up to 3 times
proto lab= this holds upgrades to your jetpacks and heavy armor
res towers= responsible for your res points to upgrade your items, can also eletrify these
infantry portals= for spawning in
3 different types of gameplay:
combat maps= you control your upgrades with the kills you get, welding command chair or healing hive gives you points on your meter for upgrading. you get 1 hive/ 1 chair and must destroy this to win (start on this level of playing first and once you get good at it change over to ns maps)
ns maps= give 1 player/ player(s) sometimes the ability to upgrade everyones abilities and the order they go in. each order results in different outcomes depending on the other players order. you get 3 hives here and 4 chambers:
i already explained what each do and upgrading does. all buildings on marine side are only for ns maps, same with aliens.
siege maps= each team is blocked off by a "central point" allowing each team to get res towers and upgrades before fighting. there's a time limit so each few seconds count. there's a secret door in each teams base that puts them in striking distance from your hive/chair. this door opens awhile after gameplay starts. aliens want to put all 3 ability chambers near the wall so they recover quickly and speed isn't hindered. marines want to put a phase gate near the door and once inside put up about 2 or 3 turret factories. you must upgrade each factory to be able to use "siege guns". once upgraded put as many down as you can. you also must put a observatory in there to ping the hives. each ping has a cast second timelimit so the more you have the more you can ping per 5 seconds. you may also want to move your base into the siege room b/c sometimes you can lose by aliens killing off your base while your pinging. also on some siege maps the secret door for aliens is all the way at the entrance to the marine secret door.
i think that's everything, it took along time to type out so i might of missed something, but i think i got everything covered as i looked over it again.
