how does it work? in terms of specs.. lets say i have an 8800GT with specs as followed.

Stream Processors : 112
Memory: 512MB
Core: 600MHz

and many more.

does it mean when i sli it the Stream Processors will increase to 224 or does it remain the same? i know the Memory would remain the same. correct me please if i'm wrong.

Good ol' wiki says...

Which is different from 3dfx's SLi

And here is more on ATi's Crossfire to see the comparison

alright. i've read it but it does not say anything about the hardware. hmmmmm

Both cards share the workload when run in SLi. In other words, each GPU and their respecive sets of memory process the exact same textures and data as each other. You don't add up the total cards memory, or their shader processors when graphics cards are run in SLi.

it means that the work load of the card would be lesser?

yes. the minute you go into sli everything is set eaqually on the cards. if one is clocked higher or has more memory, the lowest common denominator is used for both cards
