Question about quads.. difference between steppings

Thread Starter
I've searched but came to no results... So my question is what is the difference between the different steppings in quad cores. Like G0 and B3? I know most place only have the G0, but what's the difference among them? Thanks!

The main difference is the G0 consuming less power, leading to lower load temperatures, and higher overclocks.

I looked for the same information before putting in an order this week. I believe the differences are minuscule. Mainly being voltage handling and power consumption. You'll probably get a number of people saying OMG, the G0 overclocks so much better! On average, I'm sure that it does, but from what I've read, the B3 does fine itself and usually takes more voltage to achieve the same clocks as the G0. As always, I'm no expert and do not have mine in hand yet; just relaying what I've read.

Good question. I'm eager to know the answer too.

As long as the B3 can get to like 3.5 at a reasonable Voltage, I'm cool with it.

As long as you have a good HSF, as well as case cooling, it's achievable.

But I don't see going for the B3, if the G0 is available. Unless the B3 is the only one available, wherever you're buying from.

G0 has max thermal 71c vs. B3 has 61c. As the fsb, clock speed and voltage up so does the heat. In this case, G0 will have higher chance to reach good OC because of this. Few degrees make a huge difference in high OC sometime.

Well the G0 stepping is more overclockable because it runs cooler and it has a higher thermal specification compared to the B3.

Thermal evelope of 62C (B3) vs 71C (G0)

The G0 seems to OC slightly better and cooler. B3's here at OCN are OCing to around 3-3.2 safely and G0's are 3.4-3.6Ghz safely with good cooling of course.
