Vista - My Thoughts. - Page 9

If you buy a retail pc (hp, gateway...), you really cant expect a "performance" pc when you get the lowest of the line. Obviously the 512mb version is meant for very LIGHT use (email and some word processing). I wouldn't expect it to be fast at all. Don't blame it on Vista. If you do a full re-install with the oem cd when you get the comp, it will run considerably faster. Yest vista takes up more resources, but the junk they load those computers down with doesn't help either, and that is the REAL problem with them not vista.

some people have nothing better to do than start threads about the same crap over and over... google much ? i doubt it...

Why don't you send an email to microsoft about it ? I mean come on... there are better ways to get attention.

And instead of saying Vista - My Thoughts.. you should of named it "Vista - My Rant" becuase that's what this thread is.. a rant..

vista's flaws that i just cant stand:

first off id like to say vista really isnt all that visually pleasing even though it hogs every bit of your systems performance.

secondly, trying to dual boot is one of the most disgusting things ive ever seen. vista is practically a bully that refuses to let your other operating systems do anything. i have Acronis OS selector installed and yet i have to reinstall it constantly to stop it from giving me an MBR Error 3 at boot up.

third, i was just playing some call of duty 4, not doing too bad i might add, when vista decided to crash and not let me do a thing about it, which brings me to my fourth point.

*** is up with vista's task manager...i havent had a single case where it actually worked properly and shutdown a program that was problematic. its pathetic.

now comes a more annoying problem. everytime the above happens, it messes up my entire internet connection and i have to go unplug my router and modem, and pray that it will work again, or else i have to keep screwing around with everything to try and get it to connect. it actually said earlier that my wireless hardware did not have the capabilities to connect to my network...

so did i miss anything? or is that the crap that is windows vista.
1.
having the desktop run in a 3D environment is definately worth it.. so what if you have to have a remotely decent GFX card to run it
2.
Learn to google. Vista has its own bootloader.. and theres a easy to use program to change it.. used it myself to get OSX to dualboot on my laptop called Vistabootpro Vista overwrites other bootloaders when you install it, it works fine usually if you install vista last.
3.
CoD4 works seemlessly for me, turn off UAC, and make sure you have the latest patches
4.
Taskmanager works fine for me, but usually i can kill a non-responsive program before i can open it
5.
So now you're blaming your internet problems on vista?

I think you just have a mission to find negativity about vista.

Vista is far superior to XP, no matter what way you slice it the pros far outweigh the cons with Vista.

how about chill out? this is the first time ive ever posted something like this and its because ive been genuinely ticked off at how its been running. "overclock.net - the pursuit of performance" this is a vista performance related thread, which i am entitled to make. i posted it in hopes of A) complaining a little bit because its fun, B) getting some help, possibly some resources where i could increase the performance of the OS, C) HOPEFULLY start a thread that isnt full of people who join just to bash your post then leave. rather, for people to come in, add their own respectful input on the topic and discuss it. ETC.

1. Vista wasn't necessarily designed to be visually PLEASING. The idea behind the new interface is to increase productivity by diverting attention away from the obnoxious title bars and borders that XP used to the actual contents of the window at hand through more subtly presented windows. I don't know how effective this idea is in reality, but according to Microsoft, "studies have shown" that their idea is working at least a certain amount.
2. The first time I ever attempted to dual boot was the configuration I have set up now, Vista Ultimate 32 on the primary partition and XP Professional x64 on the other. I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to computers and even I had no problem learning to dual boot and successfuly configuring one using Vista.
3. Sounds more like a corrupted install/copy to me then a bad operating system. I haven't heard of a whole lot of cases of the new OS developing willpower and deciding to crash.
4. Somebody noted the same thing earlier, and I can back them up: half the time Vista ends my nonresponsive programs before I even get a chance to open up taskmgr. As far as doing it manually, I haven't seen a single problem yet. It's just liek taskmgr has always been...you've gotta wait a little while (depending on your system) for the program to close. it's not instantaneous.
5. I don't know a whole lot about networking but this sounds like further proof of a software corruption or conflict, not the release of a bad OS.

ive done plenty of dual booting prior to this and ive never had one problem with it until now, when ive added vista into the mix. and my vista has developed AI and decides to do things and tells me stuff...jk, clearly. im not sure what the deal with my task manager is, i know you need to wait a while, but i clicked to end a game earlier and i left the room for somewhere between 5-10 minutes and when i came back absolutely nothing had changed. and this isnt the first problem ive had with task manager in vista, even it has crashed before and i have needed to ctrl alt del again and use that newly opened task manager to close programs. and since my post earlier, my wireless has been fine, oddly enough.

i don't really know what to tell you other than try another install of vista. i'd say see if you can get a different CD with the same version you're using, install it with the license you're using now, and see if the new install functions any better than the old.

possibly, im using the OEM disc that i got with my computer, so ill have to look around for someone with a home premium disc i can borrow. touchy subject, so ill ask it as properly as i can, what are the legal issues surrounding downloading a vista ISO when i own my own copy and only plan on using a legal cd key?
