925 vs. e2180 for oc? Teach me! - Page 2

i would suggest that you get a 2160 or 2140,both hit 2.5-2.8GHz easily on stock voltages and oc nicely to 3GHz,anything beyond requires better cooling anyway.
and if you are into gaming, put some money and get a hd3850,there has been a price cut and with 3870 at $190 you can prolly get a 3850 at $150 in a few days.

Unfortunately, I can't make any purchases until April, so I'm not worried about sales or rebates yet.

Thanks to your replies, I am totally convinced that the e2180 is for me. Now I feel 100% confident in my purchase. The best part, the price will be reduced a bit by April. In fact, it dropped to $79.99 from $82.99 since I first looked at it a week ago!

So, what's folding? I love asking dumb questions!

There is no dumb question. I'm sure you know stuff I don't know. That's what OCN is all about sharing your knowledge and helping people. Is the computer your using right now really a P3 500MHz. If it is, going from your P3 to a E2180 is like going from a power scooter to a Ferrari. Well when you are ready to build your new system let us know if you need any help in deciding on components because at that time who knows maybe there will be a CPU that's an even better value than the E2180 is right now.
