Celeron --> Pentium 4 HT

post #1 of 3
Thread Starter
I have an old Celeron D 325 computer sitting around collecting dust
because it's simply too slow to play any demanding games. Going from a
GF4 MX440 to a GF7 7600GS helped a little, but it's still insanely slow.
Just the other day my boss offered to give me an old server he was
going to throw away. I would have just taken the whole computer, but it
has no AGP slot. It's a P4 3.0Ghz with HyperThreading. My question is,
since they are both socket 478, can i just pull out the celeron and
drop in the P4, or does the motherboard have to support HT? It's a
Foxconn 661MXPro, only supporting Single channel DDR. Even it works
without the HT i'm gonna assume it will be worlds faster. Opinions?

Whats your motherbourd. Is the P4 a Northwood of Prescott. Since you can put a Celeron D on there which is preaty new compare to old celeron i say yes it will work. I say this beacuse my motherbourd doesnt take Celeron D but it take P4 3.0GHz all the models S478. The bad thing is that that P4 is not that much better so dont get overjoyed because i switched from a Celeron 2.0 old one to a P4 2.8/800 and i dont see any difference.
