recommend a board

Hi all,

Helping a friend build a rig. NOT a gaming rig (gasp!) - it's exclusively for a) intensive data analysis and b) office productivity, with a little c) DVD/movie watching thrown in on the side.

He's settled on a q6600, and we'll be doing 4-8 GB of RAM, depending on how much is left in the budget at the end of the day. So a board that's known to handle 4x2GB RAM sticks and can OC a quad well is what we're after here. SLI/xfire is a non-issue. Decent RAID controller a plus, as he's as-yet undecided on whether to stripe a RAID array.

In My Opinion-
For Non-RAID-
-Abit ip35-e or Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.

Or for RAID-
-Abit ip35-pro or Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R

All four are great overclockers and great value.

foxconn mars or abit ip35 pro are very stable boards when it comes to a lot of ram not so much for overclocking

ive had much better overclocking results with my gigabyte p35 ds3r than either of those, and ive tested all 3 with multiple cpus/ram

i cant stop praising the Gigabyte P35-DS3l. i have 3 of my 6600's on that board! the fourth is my gaming system. i haven't got around to testing the board to see how high of an o/c it can handle on the quads, but it can do 3.0 with no problem what so ever. i have the GO @ 3.25 folding 24/7 with no problems.
