Yeah but if you search the Intel site you wuold look under desktop boards: Extreme and it is at the top of the list. I update all drivers and BIOS for every build.

This is the first rig in about yars that has giving me such a perplexing set f issues...

CD, has anyone else had these problems? I'd google around and see if similar issues come up. Perhaps you aren't the only one :\\

Man, this sounds just as bad as my mill fiasco

I'll start digging around, maybe I'll find a solution...

True, however I was under the impression Skulltrail is merely Intel's branding for their 5400XS chipset motherboard... I really haven't followed this chipset much but I had not ruled out the possibility that Asus or another motherboard manufacturer already released their own 5400xs chipset board.

But the real problem, I have yet to finish off my coffee... It's a wonder I can even communicate.

Sure you don't have an Abit board masquerading as an Intel?

I just saw that this board uses a J micron controller, it's almost ironic that I commented previously on an Abit board masquerading as an Intel... Because it was the J micron controller that gave early Abit QuadGT owners all sorts of headaches(it was one of the problems anyway).

Have you tried updating it's drivers?

The processors are one thing but Intel’s Skulltrail motherboard is actually what really makes this platform unique and what makes it shine. The Intel D5400XS “Skulltrail†Motherboard uses Intel’s workstation Seaburg chipset as well as a pair of NVIDIA MCPs for SLI support. It supports 1066/1333/1600MHz FSB speeds. This also marks the first time Intel has released an overclockable enthusiast class LGA771 motherboard. It supports Intel’s latest Xeon™ and Core 2 Extreme™ QX9775 processors. As with most motherboards built for the enthusiast market it requires very few components to create a functional system. It requires processors, FB-DIMM memory modules, hard drives, video card(s), and a beefy power supply. Intel integrated the following into the D5400XS “Skulltrail†motherboard: 1 Intel 82537L Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, 2 IEEE1394 ports, 10 USB ports (6 backplane, 4 via USB headers), 2 eSATA ports, 1 ATA-133 port, ( both provided by JMicron JM368 Controller), 6 SATA ports (6321ESB I/O Controller Hub), 5 mini-headphone jacks (IDT Stac9274D audio codec), and 1 optical out port. There are no legacy ports on this motherboard. No serial, no parallel, and finally (although we saw ABIT do this years ago albeit too early) no PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports.
But your drive is IDE... Previously the problem with JMicron was running SATA HDs and SATA optical drives simultaneously. Perhaps the buggy behavior is different this time around?

-EDIT- Sorry for the double post ><

Test Systems

The following system configurations were used for the Sandra memory benchmark graph, as well as all graphs listed under the Synthetic and Gaming Benchmarks sections:

CPU(s): 2x Intel Extreme Edition QX9775 LGA771 CPUs @3.2GHz.
Motherboard: Intel D5400XS “Skulltrail†BIOS version 780
Memory: 2x2GB Micron DDR2 800MHz PC2-6400 FB-DIMMs
Video Card(s): 2x EVGA 8800GTX’s (Reference clock speeds.)
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling 1kw SR
Hard Drive(s): 2x 40GB Samsung SATA II/300 hard drives in RAID 0 (16k stripe size.)
Monitor: Dell 3007WFP 30†LCD
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Edition
They got Vista Ultimate x64 to work... Clearly there's a solution, we just have to figure it out.

CD, I had MASSIVE issues with the JMircron controller on my QuadGT. I have since moved away from it, to a SATA optical drive, but it gave me a TON of headaches in the beginning of the QuadGT's BIOS development...We went through literally 4 BIOSes until we got one that resolved all the issues surrounding the board, the LAN controller on it, the JMicron controller, etc....

Try hooking up your optical drive to the SATA ports and give it another whirl- At least you can take the JMicron controller out of the equation.

Sorry to hear the grief you've had so far but I'm sure your know-how and perseverance will pay off.

but, as I said, if you're going to do folding alone - its a COMPLETE waste of money.

I understand why CD here got a Skulltrail. But for anyone else who isn't out of their mind like CD, it's a waste of time and money. Even if it is for the bragging rights.

If I had the cash I'd try to build a system that can do 1% of a WU in 5 to 6 minutes. Just for the fun of it. A lot of hobbies can be considered a complete waste of money. My freinds are big into Bass fishing and spend many K's on there boats every year. I just don't get it myself.

What would be better for folding then?
