opteron 185, any good?

Thread Starter
I'm wondering if upgrading my Opty 165 to a 185 would be worthwhile? What are the OC capabilities of the 185? I'm running my 165 stable at 2.7, can I do better than that with a 185? If so, how much better?
Comments would be helpful, thanks!

Ive heard the 175 and 185 dont overclock as well as the 165 or 170. If they do, you will get around the same oc, maybe higher, but could be lower. In my opinion its not worth the upgrade, just throwing money away. So I advise staying with what you have.

Don't bother man. For the money, the increase of possibly 200 mhz isn't worth it. Save that cash for an upgrade to your video card, or another system.

I agree. You could maybe get 3.1 depending on stepping (prolly be able to get the 165 there anyways) so, it really isn't worth it.

George, list off your OS settings and stepping and maybe we can help you overclock your processor a bit more. It's worth a shot

Unfortunately, I lapped the Opty without writing down the specs, and it needed a lot of lapping. No trace of the specs were left, and I've been kicking myself ever since. My bad! I'm not sure what you mean about listing my OS settings. I could give you my mem timings, which I recently changed.
Please clarify.

Do you have any idea of it's stepings? There's quite a few that are able to do 3GHz 24/7 stable on air cooling...
