$1500 Build for Friend

Thread Starter
This is a $1500 build for my friend. He needs everything and wants it to run his cad programs for school and every game out. I haven’t tried to find the best prices yet, just trying to find the best items right now. Also not counting rebates but it is a plus.

Samsung 226bw ~ $320
Antec Nine Hundred ~ $120 (my friend likes the looks of it)
Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 ~$120
G5 mouse ~ $50
Keyboard generic black or silver ~ $15
Evga 8800gt ~ $220 runs everything out highest settings but crysis
Motherboard I have no idea but something that runs quad core intel.
2 to 4 gig ram ( he probably wants to run vista)
Cpu not sure, wish the cheap 45nm quads were out but q6600? Or maybe something cheap like the e21XX cpus to get by on until then.
Seagate barracuda 7200.11 500 gb ~ $120
CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ~ $100
X-FI Extreme Gamer ~ $80
Lites-on Sata DVD burner ~ $30
Artic silver ~ $6
CPU Cooler of some sort ($50 ish?)

Hopefully this gives you some sort of idea. Thanks for the help!

instead of the klipscg promedia...i would do the Logitehc Z-540 5.1 surround sound for $90 at walmart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...Specifications

motherboard i would do this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128089 or if they want SLI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128089 which has ALOT more features.

and power supply wise i would get at least 600 or 700watts for future upgrades with the 8 pin adapters on them for VGA cards.

Board: Abit IP35 Pro.
CPU: 45nm quad won't be out until early April. I still think Q6600 is a good option if you want to build it now. Otherwise, get a $60 e2180 oem for temp. use.
CPU: Tuniq tower $40-$45.

That mobo with at least one of this hard drive:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822116016

His load times will rock. That mobo will need an add-in sound card, but it runs DDR2800 and all C2D procs. I don't know how it will overclock, though.

that motherboard is crazy expensive. I'm already over budget w/o rebates.

He doesn't really need a fast hard drive so much, just a lot of room. I don't think he'll mind waiting a few seconds longer for games to load up. I would of done a raid 0 setup but since he uses it for school, it needs to be reliable. Plus I'm out of money for the build.

That monitor is crazy expensive. Get a 20-21" for >$100 less.

this acer looks pretty decent. 22" seem the best for the price right now. Don't really want to get anything smaller.

Acer AL2216Wbd Black 22" 5ms DVI

That puts the total cost at $1,475
