my linux "to-do" list...

Thread Starter
I have 4 things I need to do with linux; i just installed ubuntu 7.04 on my secondary hard drive.

1) I need to install compiz fusion on it (I want the latest cube rotating thingy and all those brilliant effects)

2) I need to change the resolution from 1024x768 to 2880x900 (two 19" widescreen monitors)

3) getting a few games running up on linux.

4) Learn how to use the freaking console!!!

Can anyone help me with any of these? I am a complete linux noob, but I really want to learn how to work this.

Should have installed 7.10 since that is more up to date, but Feisty will work just as fine.

1. Open Synaptic and do a search for Compiz. Install Compiz, Compiz-core, and Compiz-gnome, as well as the plugins (main and extra). You will also want compizconfig-settings-manager.

2. Have you installed your graphics drivers? I assume you're using that 8800, so to keep it simple use Envy.

3. You can try searching Synaptic for games. Some good ones are Nexuiz and Warsow. You can also try Urban Terror.

4. It's rather simple once you get used to it. You can try learning some basic commands, but the best way to learn will be when you start using it.
