How many monitors are supported when running in SLI mode?

I have four monitors and SLI, only thing you can do is specify the monitor you want to use. This is because SLI takes two video cards to render one scene (i know you know that), how it works is the first card does the top half and the slave does the bottom half of the screen. This is why you have that debate over what aspects need to be rendered and another arguement is the rendering is not equal in so instances. Eg. the ground going really fast (fps shooter) and the background is pretty much the same... Crossfire solved this by having each card do different parts on the scene (kinda like a tic tac toe board). Now the best way to run two monitors is to plug one monitor into the top card (plug 1) and plug one monitor into the bottom card (plug 2 in xp OR plug 3 vista...dont ask i dont know but i have both OSs) then you can render everything independently. To make a long story short SLI was never intended to power more than one monitor

edit: i meant four monitors OR SLI not both at the same time

You can switch the mode of rendering though. Theres at least two types of alternate frame rendering (AFR), tiling, and split screen.

SLI was created to drive one output though, you're right. If you want multiple screen gaming rendering you need a Triplehead2Go or similar.

From what I have read I would say no because SLI is when one frame is done by the first video card and then the next from is rendered by the second video card so both video cards do half the work. In this process they only output to one monitor because of the fact that the other video card is rendering the frame for that output.
